Rt Hon Robert Halfon

Former Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education

Former MP for Harlow (2010-2024) and Minister of State at the Department for Education (2016-2017 & 2022-2024). I also served as Minister without Portfolio attending Cabinet (2015-2016) and Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party (2015-2016). During my time in Parliament, I championed education, skills, and apprenticeships, notably boosting apprenticeships through a new UCAS service and launching the Skills for Life campaign. I scrapped the cap on apprenticeships for SMEs, tripled the Care Leaver Bursary to £3,000, and introduced the Lifelong Learning Bill to enhance student finance. As Chair of the House of Commons Education Select Committee, I published critical reports and held the Government accountable during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, I continue my work in education and skills through my consultancy, Ladder of Opportunity.
